Holds part against polish wheel and/or moves polishing equipment over surfaces of workpiece to remove fine scratches and to achieve specified finish. Performs minor filling operations related to the cosmetic appearance of the part being worked. Polishes recessed areas with fine grade emery cloth and performs masking operations, Assists and learns calculation of mix ratios in order to mix paint, sealant and other materials. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations and maintains records in accordance with these environmental regulations. Performs hand and spray application of primer and topcoat to aircraft parts. Completes and maintains necessary paperwork for documenting processes performed.

Requirements

Two (2) years’ experience in heavy aircraft maintenance, preferably with an airline and/or MRO aircraft company. Must have thorough working knowledge of all forms and documents required to support heavy maintenance service, including, but not limited to Company policy and procedure manuals, FAR’s, AD’s, Service Bulletins, and Maintenance Manuals. Able to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, and drawings. Efficient in the use and application of tools, gauges, instruments, etc. necessary for the accomplishment of duties assigned. Must have an understanding and working knowledge of hazardous material handling and disposal as related to the job assignment. Valid and current Airframe and Powerplant license is a plus. Must have minimum required tools. Meet the qualifications to obtain a SIDA badge. High School diploma or equivalent.

Removes rust from metal with acid, wire brush, or steel wool. Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated. Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface. Computes mix ratios in order to mix paint materials. Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color. Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose. Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray. Selects the appropriate personal protective equipment for the operation to be performed. When using a respirator ensures the respirator is working properly and is properly worn. Applies spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish using protective or decorative material such as paint, enamel, glaze, gel-coat, or lacquer. Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer with brush. Heats and sprays wax onto products after they are tested. Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent. Ensures compliance with environment regulations and maintains records in accordance with these environment regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D. and Two (2) or more years of experience in aircraft painting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
