SUMMARY: The Composites/Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for service, repair and overhaul aircraft to ensure airworthiness. Works under minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General •Has intermediate knowledge of all areas of the aircraft and assigned work area. Repair, modify, replace or otherwise perform routine aircraft maintenance work in specialized area of aircraft. •Develop repair schemes utilizing SRM or Engineering data. Conduct operational tests. •Communicate effectively with other maintenance personnel at all levels by keeping co-workers and leadership apprised of work progress and difficulties as they arise. •Complete job assignments in a timely manner. •Read and interpret manufacturer and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, drawings and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repair, replacement or modification. •Responsible for accurately clocking to jobs. •Perform other duties as assigned. The following duties will apply based on the area to which the employee is assigned: Composites •Repair, replace, and rebuild composite parts •Utilize OEM and Engineering drawings to modify composite parts •Accomplish wet lay-up repairs •Accomplish elevated temperature repairs •Understand quote process •Knows all standard chemicals, epoxies, sealants, resins, pre-pregs, composite repair materials and their associated MSDS Sheet Metal •Repair, replace, and rebuild A/C component structures •Possess basic computer skills •Repair & modify flight control surfaces and components •Utilize special installation tools, such as blind rivet guns, etc. •Utilize OEM and Engineering drawings to modify aircraft structure •Complete specialized tasks, such as flap peening, cold working, etc. •Fabricate repair parts using special shop tooling, such as brakes, stretchers, etc.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Meet all regulatory requirements per FAR 65. Proficiency in relevant specialty of aircraft. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. Airframe and/or Power plant License and level of skill customarily acquired after one year as a General Mechanic, or three years of related commercial / military aircraft experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate to high. May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. This position requires use of a respirator.

Determines dimensions to layout holes patterns, install clips, brackets, nut plates and like items. Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material with or without templates or shop aides to develop or back drill hole patterns on composite, sheet metal and mechanical parts. Trims sheet metal and composite parts to fit and files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces. Installs assemblies in assembly jigs, fixtures or other tooling according to work instructions. Assembles parts into subassemblies and final assemblies using basic hand tools such as, drill motors, die grinders, sanders, polishers, rivet shavers and other like tools. Drills holes of varying sizes in detail parts and subassemblies according to work instructions. Installs blind rivets, Jo-Bolts, hilocks, huck bolts, solid rivets and bolts, drives and bucks rivets to attach and assemble detail parts to structural parts and complete subassemblies to written and verbal work instructions. Inspects completed assemblies for conformance to specifications. Completes and maintains necessary paperwork for documenting processes performed.

Determine equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as graphite, fiberglass, plastic, boron, flock, mat, epoxy resins, rubber and like materials. Plans, lays out, fabricates and builds adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and nonmetallic composite materials. Fabricate composite and metal parts into subassemblies for the purpose of prefitting in preparation for bonding/curing in presses, ovens, and autoclaves. Lays out, prefits, assembles and performs lay-up on a variety of metal to metal and composite bonded assemblies. Fits core in panels where close tolerances are required for installation of details for completion of assembly. Performs vacuum bagging for Autoclave cures up to 100 psi. Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates. Selects tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions. Performs rework or repair on any metallic or nonmetallic part presented for rework or repair.

4 years experience in Aircraft Repair Bonding in an aerospace environment Special Skills, Licenses or Job Requirements: Demonstrate competency in applying the following in performing normal job duties. • Reading and interpreting work instructions, properly documenting work performed on such documents as process planning, adhesive log sheets, Material Review Board documents, Engineering Work Orders, Change Notices, Engineering Process Specifications, technical manuals and like documentation. • Use close tolerance measuring tools i.e. scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages and like tools. Maintain proficiency with various types of inspection aides used for the inspection of a particular item. Conduct all required inspections in accordance with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturer’s approved data, any customer’s approved program data, and the policies and procedures contained in this Inspection Procedures Manual. Ensure current specifications involving inspection tolerances, limits, and procedures recommended by the manufacturer of the product undergoing inspection and other forms of applicable inspection information are available for reference. Other examples of inspection information would be FAA Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer’s bulletins, approved customer data, and Federal Aviation Regulations. Make final airworthiness determination prior to “Return of Service” on items they are authorized to inspect for any article maintained or altered by this repair station. Reject any work or parts that have not been properly maintained or altered in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturer’s approved data, customer approved data and the policies and procedures contained within this manual. Support the company Safety Program
