The level of work requires experience and sound judgment. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings. Determine equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as graphite, fiberglass, plastic, boron, flock, mat, epoxy resins, rubber and like materials. Plans, lays out, fabricates and builds adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and nonmetallic composite materials. Fabricate composite and metal parts into subassemblies for the purpose of prefitting in preparation for bonding/curing in presses, ovens, and autoclaves. Lays out, prefits, assembles and performs lay-up on a variety of metal to metal and composite bonded assemblies. Fits core in panels where close tolerances are required for installation of details for completion of assembly. Performs vacuum bagging for Autoclave cures up to 100 psi. Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates. Selects tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions. Performs rework or repair on any metallic or nonmetallic part presented for rework or repair.

Requirements

4 years experience in Aircraft Repair Bonding in an aerospace environment Special Skills, Licenses or Job Requirements: Demonstrate competency in applying the following in performing normal job duties. • Reading and interpreting work instructions, properly documenting work performed on such documents as process planning, adhesive log sheets, Material Review Board documents, Engineering Work Orders, Change Notices, Engineering Process Specifications, technical manuals and like documentation. • Use close tolerance measuring tools i.e. scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages and like tools. To perform functions assigned in the specialized repair of aircraft composite material structural members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Researches technical data and performs fabrication of plastic aircraft parts, accessories, and trim in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations and Ascent Aviation policies and procedures. Cuts fiberglass, kevlar or graphite cloth to size, following template or blueprints, using cutting machine, scissors, or knife. Marks identifying information on material and assembles materials in kits for subsequent laminating. Applies parting agent to mold or bonding fixture. Impregnates cloth with resins by dipping cloth in solutions, feeding cloth between rollers to impregnating machine, or brushing resin onto cloth. Applies layers of impregnated cloth or prepreg onto mold or fixture in predetermined ply sequence, and presses cloth to fit contours of mold, smooth surface, and remove air pockets and excess resin, using squeegee, scraper, spatula or roller. Fits and laps ends of cloth, using scissors or knife. Encases molded laminate in bagging material and bleeder cloth, attached vacuum bagging apparatus, such as thermocouples, probes, and vacuum connections, to mold or bonding fixture, and exhausts air from vacuum bag to seal laminate for curing. Tests seal on vacuum bagging apparatus, using leak detector. Trims, drills, deburrs, grinds, sands, and finishes cured parts to specifications, using templates, fixtures, handtools, and power tools. Pre-fits and assembles cured parts into assemblies or subassemblies, using jigs, fixtures, power tools, and fasteners, such as rivets and bolts. Performs cold/hot metal bonding. Applies adhesives to surface of assembled parts for bonding in autoclave.

Requirements

3-5 year’s composite or structures work experience preferred. A License preferred. Current valid Arizona driver’s license with clear driving record for past three years required. Must have own tools - must be etched at in a toolbox High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education or training in composites or equivalent combination of education, training or experience required. Will participate in and support safety initiatives, safe work practices and SMS compliance. Will participate in safety activities including the following: immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices and accidents/injuries. Will follow all safety rules, FAA regulations, PPE compliance and equipment operation requirements.

Works in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA and Company Procedures advising the Supervisor immediately of any unsafe or hazardous equipment or working facility. Maintains a clean working area. Completes his/her work within allocated target hours and on schedule. Occasionally, performs fabrication and installation of Avionics STC systems, flight controls and associated airframe systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains knowledge of current EPA regulations and applicable F.A.R.s. Understands and complies with all employee work rules.
