The Aircraft Composite Technician will be responsible for inspection, repairs and fabrication of aircraft composite structures and components on customer aircraft. Performs work on assigned aircraft including assembly, repair, and modification as qualified while adhering to FAA regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Know various types of aircraft sealant and appropriate method application for sealant as well as aircraft fasteners and basic methods of installation and suitable substitutions. Fabricate parts as required and have knowledge of metal and alloys and where substitutes may be used. Layout and perform complex structural repairs that are addressed in the repair manuals and engineering documents. Perform such typical maintenance operations such as the removal and replacement of aircraft and powerplant components that require bolting, torqueing, adjusting rigging and safety wiring, including powerplant and flight control removal and reinstallation. Repair, modify, replace, or overhaul aircraft and aircraft systems to ensure airworthiness.

Requirements

5+ years of composites experience on aircraft Experienced with Maintenance Manuals, illustrated parts Catalog, Blueprints, ATA Codes, Service Bulletins, routine and non-routines and other related maintenance documents. Experience with wet layups Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language. Must have own tools High School Diploma or GED Ability to operate safely all ground support equipment, (i.e., Main Lifts, Scissor Lifts, etc.) and possess the Company operating certification. Able to do hot bond repairs with Heatcon hot bonders Able to do metal prep and metal bonds on wing with hot bonders Able to co composite material hot bonds with hot bonders Proficiency with reading and understanding manual references for assigned jobs Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs. Subject to continual loud noises. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and/or service stands. Aircraft Composites Technician

To perform functions assigned in the specialized repair of aircraft composite material structural members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Researches technical data and performs fabrication of plastic aircraft parts, accessories, and trim in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations and Ascent Aviation policies and procedures. Cuts fiberglass, kevlar or graphite cloth to size, following template or blueprints, using cutting machine, scissors, or knife. Marks identifying information on material and assembles materials in kits for subsequent laminating. Applies parting agent to mold or bonding fixture. Impregnates cloth with resins by dipping cloth in solutions, feeding cloth between rollers to impregnating machine, or brushing resin onto cloth. Applies layers of impregnated cloth or prepreg onto mold or fixture in predetermined ply sequence, and presses cloth to fit contours of mold, smooth surface, and remove air pockets and excess resin, using squeegee, scraper, spatula or roller. Fits and laps ends of cloth, using scissors or knife. Encases molded laminate in bagging material and bleeder cloth, attached vacuum bagging apparatus, such as thermocouples, probes, and vacuum connections, to mold or bonding fixture, and exhausts air from vacuum bag to seal laminate for curing. Tests seal on vacuum bagging apparatus, using leak detector. Trims, drills, deburrs, grinds, sands, and finishes cured parts to specifications, using templates, fixtures, handtools, and power tools. Pre-fits and assembles cured parts into assemblies or subassemblies, using jigs, fixtures, power tools, and fasteners, such as rivets and bolts. Performs cold/hot metal bonding. Applies adhesives to surface of assembled parts for bonding in autoclave.

Requirements

3-5 year’s composite or structures work experience preferred. A License preferred. Current valid Arizona driver’s license with clear driving record for past three years required. Must have own tools - must be etched at in a toolbox High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education or training in composites or equivalent combination of education, training or experience required. Will participate in and support safety initiatives, safe work practices and SMS compliance. Will participate in safety activities including the following: immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices and accidents/injuries. Will follow all safety rules, FAA regulations, PPE compliance and equipment operation requirements.

Remove and replace various aircraft components with the use of special tooling and ground support equipment following oral and written instructions such as supervisor’s directives and manuals to complete all routine and non-routine assignments in a timely manner. Maintain and supply personal records of work performed on OJT forms for the Training Department. Successfully complete any courses deemed necessary by the Training Department. Perform any work that may be assigned by his or her supervisor.

1-5 years’ experience of heavy structures on commercial aircraft. Passenger to Cargo conversions is a plus Minimum Required Tools (Etched before Arrival). Operating knowledge of shop equipment to include, drill presses, shears, brakes, and band saws. Capable of performing structural repairs on floor beams, fuselage skin repairs, to include stringers, doublers, and triplers. Capable of performing floor beam, and frame installations / repairs. Capable of performing basic repairs, blend outs, and reinforcing repairs. Corrosion removal, damage evaluation, and finish restoration. Ability to read and interpret SRM damage limits, and repairs. Working knowledge of IPCs. Ability to read, interpret, plan and work from complex SRM’s, Blueprints, Service Bulletins, ADs, EAs, and EO’s. Working knowledge of cold working, roto peening, and freeze plug installations a plus.

Ability to effectively communicate in English aircraft maintenance actions both verbally and in writing. Must be comfortable with 12-hour shift work, which includes days / nights and weekends.
