Plan and fabricate parts and shop aids in accordance with engineering or customer specifications to be used in flight test aircraft.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

TASKS-Performed with little to no supervision 1. Build test equipment and fixtures, form blocks, loading systems and new aircraft mock-ups 2. Build fixtures to perform static tests, fatigue tests, pressure tests, bird strikes and assemble aircraft sections for testing 3. Assist engineering with designing, building and/or modifying new or existing aircraft and experimental parts, components and tooling 4. Perform heavy structural modifications on experimental aircraft test fixtures and components per engineering specifications 5. Set-up hydraulic test systems and perform modifications as required to perform engineering test requirements 6. Repair or modify aircraft test components and test systems 7. Develop and design parts for submission to engineering 8. Develop, build and test shop aides as required 9. Assist other areas in troubleshooting aircraft test articles, components and systems as needed for mock-up, building and testing assemblies 10. Fabricate and modify repair station detail parts and assemblies in support of defense/customer support aircraft. 11. Process and paint fabricated parts for experimental, repair station, and Learjet Production Certificate projects KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 1. Working knowledge of aircraft systems 2. Thorough knowledge of blueprints 3. Thorough knowledge of maintenance manuals, parts catalog, and applicable FAA documents 4. Thorough knowledge in fabrication of sheet metal and/or composite components and assemblies, aircraft parts and ground support equipment per engineering drawings, sketches, advance designs, specifications and/or verbal instructions 5. Thorough knowledge of reading and interpreting aircraft blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and manuals 6. Thorough knowledge of Test Preparation Systems 7. Thorough knowledge of manuals necessary to perform job, for example, Aircraft Maintenance manuals, Manufacturing manuals, maintenance manuals 8. Thorough knowledge of flight-line ground safety procedures 9. Ability to interface and communicate effectively with all departments 10. Ability to be creative and problem solving

Requirements

Minimum Position Requirements • 7-10 years aircraft fabrication and/or tooling or jig building experience; OR • 7+ years aircraft fabrication and/or tooling or jig building experience with a minimum of 5 years in flight test • Blueprint II Certificate Additional Desired Qualifications • Tug Operator Qualification

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

TASKS-Performed with minimal supervision 1. Adhere to General Work Requirements 2. Plan machining procedures and set-up machining equipment 3. Fabricate first article and static, ground, and fatigue test parts in accordance with engineering specifications and BFTC methods planning documents to be used on flight test aircraft 4. Plan machining procedures and design and fabricate machine shop aids as required 5. Verify parts and tooling comply with design and complete methods documentation as required 6. Assist with development of set-up programs for computerized machining equipment 7. Grind cutting tools to specified tolerances in support of machine shop operations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 1. Working knowledge of properties of mild steel, stainless steel, titanium and aluminum applicable to part fabrication 2. Thorough knowledge of proper methods in processing materials and machining parts and shop aids to prevent costly losses of material and machine delays in certification efforts 3. Ability to produce detail parts utilizing conventional 3 axis machining including mills and lathes, must have CNC experience to include 3 axis and 5 axis milling and some CNC lathe 4. Basic knowledge of CAD/CATIA with a clear understanding of NC codes. 5. Ability to operate tool grinding equipment 6. Ability to build shop aid tools to further enhance machining operation for applicable equipment

Requirements

• Typically 7 years CNC machining experience working with conventional mills and lathes, must have CNC experience operating 3 and 5 axis mills and preferred experience in machining prototype parts and tooling • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents • Basic knowledge of properties of mild steel, stainless steel, Titanium and aluminum applicable to part fabrication • Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments • Working knowledge of shop and trigonometry mathematics • Ability to perform machine set-ups • Basic knowledge of CAD/CATIA with a clear understanding of NC codes.

TASKS-Performed with close supervision as necessary 1. Adhere to General Work Requirements 2. Verify quantity and material type are correct and all prior inspection points have been stamped 3. Verify all engineering and shop documents have been obtained to perform the necessary work order 4. Assist with planning machining procedures and set-up machine and part(s) 5. Set-up and/or verify cutting tools per machine requirements 6. Perform a variety of machining operations, for example, boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to produce machined part(s) to tolerances and dimensions in accordance with engineering specifications 7. Monitor feeds, spindle speeds, and tool wear during machining process and make adjustments to equipment, tools, and/or part(s) as required 8. Finish machined part(s) using various hand tools 9. Verify part is within specified tolerances and dimensions per engineering specifications and make further adjustments as required 10. Maintain existing documents, shop aid tools, and blueprints for applicable machines and equipment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 1. Ability to deburr, cut, polish, blend, and smooth the surfaces of machined parts using a variety of hand tools, for example, grinders, deburring tools, drill, and files 2. Basic knowledge of properties of mild steel, stainless steel, titanium and aluminum applicable to part fabrication 3. Ability to operate machining equipment including both mills and lathes 4. Perform a variety of manual and CNC machining operations, for example, turning, boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to produce machined part(s) to tolerances and dimensions in accordance with engineering specifications 5. Ability to build shop aid tools to further enhance machining operation for applicable equipment

Requirements

• Typically 3 years diversified machine shop experience and/or equivalent technical training or course work in machining or a related field • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents • Ability to calculate dimensional information for machining/machined parts • Ability to operate and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments, for example, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators • Ability to use simple or compound sine tools
