Toolmaker II (CNC) - 2nd Shift

In a team oriented work environment, under minimal supervision, performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a production department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions: Perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures and varied drilling and riveting operations; ensures parts/assembly meet requirements. Rivet structural assemblies and parts using all tools required. to do the job (e.g. portable riveting guns, pneumatic guns, pneumatic drills, counter sinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, rivets). Must display the ability to remove fasteners without damaging structure. Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, type size and hole pattern for rivets. Check all work and ensure a defective free assembly prior to final inspection. Maintain and use all logs and records (e.g. MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs). Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners. Make repairs per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Request (MRR), Production Change Orders (PCO), performs necessary rework to ensure installations meet conformity. . Maintain a neat and orderly work area, supports the company 5S Program, and complies with all safety regulations. Able to work with minimal supervision on duties and tasks. Support Lean Activities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. 2 years related structural assembly experience. Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam preferred.. Other Requirements: Must be able to read and interpret blue prints. Must be skilled in close tolerance work and have knowledge of use of special tools and equipment. Must be able to use mathematical formulas by solving dimensional problems using fractions, decimal fractions and whole numbers. Basic computer skills. Must be able to read a scale and perform basic shop math. Read and comprehend basic documents and instructions. Must have essential personal skills, which include an aptitude for hands-on craftwork, a professional attitude, attention to detail, ability to work with people and to meet demanding schedules. Must demonstrate good housekeeping and safety practices. Ability to work with composite resins and materials. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work any shift. Must be able to climb ladders/stands/stairs and work in small spaces and/or restricted areas.

Unique Skills:Must have experience troubleshooting avionics/electrical aircraft discrepancies and experience with aircraft servicing/troubleshooting equipment

Applies advanced technical skills and knowledge to program and operate multi-purpose numerically controlled machines to perform defined combinations of machining operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs tasks that are moderate to complex requiring experience and judgment to complete. Reviews setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece. Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions. Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines. Enters commands to retrieve pre-programmed machine instructions from database and machine control console. Operates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and start machine. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions. Measures work piece for conformance to specifications. Adjusts machine feed and speed, changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions. Sets up and operates the machine to produce parts. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove taped or programmed instructions. Ancillary Job Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.

Special Job Requirements, Licenses or Certifications: • Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, planning and work instructions, blueprints, assembly and fabrication orders, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment. • Must be fully competent in the programming and operation of computers that interface with CNC machine controls and also operation of CNC machine controls. Moderately competent in the use of CNC machine interface and operating software such as AutoCad and MasterCam. Special Training: • Safety training as required by OSHA.

Builds aircraft parts using CNC router machinery, shop tools, and standard aircraft materials to support the delivery of the aircraft cabinets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with CNC programs, blueprints, company standards, work instructions, and performs necessary calculations using shop math to complete CNC programs and tasks related to making aircraft parts. Apply edge fill compound to honeycomb panels. Perform quality checks of fabricated items. Communicate and interact with programmers and management to understand intricacies of programs and to efficiently operate the machines. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Complete tasks within assigned time limits. Determine work to be accomplished to complete assignments within established schedules and plan accordingly. Accurately log computerized labor data collection for time and attendance tracking. May lead and train other personnel on specific job assignments as directed by supervision. Work in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA and company safety procedures. Set up and operate standard shop equipment. Select materials from stock. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of CNC machining experience or equivalent. Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic machine principles. Computer proficient. Able to set up and operate all standard equipment related to the CNC machining process. Must possess required tools and tool box. Able to work from documentation such as drawings, F-Standards, preparation packages and 3d models Good working knowledge of math and geometry and be able to work in both metric and English units of measure. Able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation. Visual capacity and muscular dexterity to work on fine detail, high cost products with a minimum of errors and rework. Preferred - CNC experience Preferred - Able to solve practical problems when needed. Preferred - Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
