Sheetmetal Mechanic Lead (A&P)
We are seeking an experienced Lead Sheet Metal Technician to join a growing commercial aircraft maintenance operation in Sanford, Florida. This is a direct hire opportunity supporting heavy maintenance, structural repairs, and return-to-service projects on commercial aircraft. The ideal candidate will bring strong sheet metal and structural repair experience, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and an active A&P License. This individual will serve as a technical leader on the floor, helping drive quality, productivity, and compliance while working closely with management and maintenance teams. Candidates should be comfortable leading by example, troubleshooting complex structural repairs, and ensuring projects remain on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and support sheet metal technicians during heavy maintenance and structural repair projects Perform complex structural repairs, modifications, and sheet metal fabrication in accordance with FAA regulations and company procedures Assist with planning, coordinating, and prioritizing daily workload to support production schedules Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians Review and interpret Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation Perform skin repairs, panel replacements, corrosion removal, structural modifications, and major repairs Fabricate, install, and repair aircraft structural components including brackets, doublers, panels, and support structures Ensure all work is completed to quality, airworthiness, and customer requirements Coordinate with inspectors, maintenance control, engineering, and management to resolve technical issues Accurately document maintenance actions and repairs in accordance with FAA regulations Promote a safe, organized, and compliant work environment Support aircraft delivery schedules and operational goals
Requirements
Active FAA A&P License required Minimum 7+ years of commercial aircraft sheet metal and structural repair experience required Previous lead, crew lead, or supervisory experience preferred Strong heavy maintenance and commercial MRO experience required Experience performing major structural repairs and modifications on transport-category aircraft Airbus A320 General Familiarization training highly preferred Experience supporting Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft strongly preferred Ability to read and interpret SRMs, engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals Strong troubleshooting and decision-making abilities Must provide own tools Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flexible schedules as needed Must be able to pass all pre-employment and airport security requirements
