Performs routine repairs, checks and installations of all Avionics systems on the aircraft while under minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Within budgeted or estimated time, repair, modify, install, and perform routine maintenance of all Avionics systems with accuracy and with minimal assistance. Accurately interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, system schematics, drawings, engineering orders and other documents from both the customer and ATS. Apply deductive reasoning to troubleshoot and repair and/or check complex systems. Properly utilize avionics test equipment to perform systems test and keep abreast of new and advanced test equipment and the use of such equipment. Properly utilized and maintain Avionics hand tools to perform repairs and installations. Keep leadership and co-workers apprised of work progress and/or problems. Accurately document work performed as set forth by ATS and customer maintenance programs on a daily basis using the standard format. Prepare routine reports and correspondence. Fabricate per drawings and standard practices wire bundles and assemblies to include marking of wires, properly securing wires into bundles, and termination of wires into a variety of contacts and connectors. Take immediate corrective action regarding unsafe conditions. Regular and predictable attendance. Effective and appropriate conduct with co-workers. Operate ground support equipment e.g. power carts, Hi-Reach, etc. as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED AND one year as an ATS Avionics Apprentice Technician I; OR three years relevant related avionics experience on heavy commercial or regional aircraft; OR equivalent combination of education and experience/training. Airframe license is desired Ability to communicate effectively with other maintenance personnel at all levels regarding all job-related issues both verbally and in writing. Must have working knowledge of Avionics systems and their operation and the proven ability to troubleshoot basic problems. Must have broad, overall knowledge of other aircraft systems e.g. hydraulic, flight controls, etc. and major components. Other examples of inspection information would be FAA Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer’s bulletins, approved customer data, and Federal Aviation Regulations. Make final airworthiness determination prior to “Return of Service” on items they are authorized to inspect for any article maintained or altered by this repair station. Reject any work or parts that have not been properly maintained or altered in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturer’s approved data, customer approved data and the policies and procedures contained within this manual. Anticipate, specify, develop, implement, and maintain tools (including test automation tools) used on aircraft systems. Provides OJT and guidance to junior level technicians. Work directly with Engineering to help facilitate installs. Observes company rules and regulations, including housekeeping and proper use of safety methods and the safe operation of equipment. Adheres to all recordkeeping requirements and paperwork to ensure work is performed in accordance with stated documents. Complete all sign off’s and component removal/installation sheets at time task is performed but prior to end of shift. Utilize all resources available to accurately perform the work steps in a safe and timely manner. Ensure a tidy, safe and productive work environment which is conducive to properly performing the tasks at hand. Other duties as assigned not specifically stated herein.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, plus a technical training/diploma/certificate in aircraft mechanics, or aeronautics from at least a 2 year technology institution plus 3 years of applicable experience in the same or similar job in the military or within the aviation industry. A&P preferred, but not required. Prefer to have 2 -5 years of STC experience Final 03/2020 OR 6 years of applicable experience guiding junior technicians, working directly with other departments, reading blueprints, fabricating and installing systems parts and assemblies, and troubleshooting and testing aircraft systems in the same or similar job in the military or within the aviation industry. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and retain OJT. Must possess a proficient mechanical aptitude. Must have the ability to read measuring devices such as a scale or caliper or other required tools.
