A Sheetmetal Mechanic I is responsible for high proficiency in all minor through major repairs, modifications, E.A.s, and with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Remove and replace various aircraft components with the use of special tooling and ground support equipment following oral and written instructions such as supervisor’s directives and manuals to complete all routine and non-routine assignments in a timely manner. Ability to layout work using bend radius, set back and bend allowance charts, utilization of shop math, install and/or splice spars, landing gear, trunion changes, pressure bulkhead repairs and keal beam repairs/ removal and reinstall. 1-5 years’ experience of heavy structures on commercial aircraft. Passenger to Cargo conversions is a plus Minimum Required Tools (Etched before Arrival). Operating knowledge of shop equipment to include, drill presses, shears, brakes, and band saws. Capable of performing structural repairs on floor beams, fuselage skin repairs, to include stringers, doublers, and triplers. Capable of performing floor beam, and frame installations / repairs. Capable of performing basic repairs, blend outs, and reinforcing repairs. Corrosion removal, damage evaluation, and finish restoration. Ability to read and interpret SRM damage limits, and repairs. Requirements

Two (2) years’ experience in heavy aircraft maintenance, preferably with an airline and/or MRO aircraft company. Must have thorough working knowledge of all forms and documents required to support heavy maintenance service, including, but not limited to Company policy and procedure manuals, FAR’s, AD’s, Service Bulletins, and Maintenance Manuals. Able to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, and drawings. Efficient in the use and application of tools, gauges, instruments, etc. necessary for the accomplishment of duties assigned. Must have an understanding and working knowledge of hazardous material handling and disposal as related to the job assignment. Valid and current Airframe and Powerplant license REQUIRED. Coordinate the disposition of condemned parts. Be responsible for conducting audits for vendors and this Repair Station. Be proficient in using test equipment, visual inspection aids as required. Understand, read, and write English. Perform other duties as assigned.

Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Sets up and operates shop tools such as lathes, milling machine and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product. Examines standard or previously used tools, and jigs and fixtures. Uses various epoxy resin systems in order to fabricate or repair high temperature laminated fixtures. Makes plaster casts from any fixture furnished and plaster mockups or sample parts. Maintains contour and dimensional requirements of form tools and fixtures. Maintains close tolerances in jigs and transfers hole patterns from different mold lines, laying out templates, shop tools and drill fixtures.

Requirements

Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Technical school or equivalent practical experience and four (4) to seven (7) or more years of related experience, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Previous experience in performing jig and fixture or plastic laminate fabrication is desired. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required dependent driving duties assigned.
